GENERAL INFORMATION
Tuban is located in a coastal and mountainous land surface ,with its total area of 183,902.29 Ha, by 1,007,986 people, with the average population density 545 person/km2. The number of the population increases 1,15%/year. The regional income in 1995/1996 is Rp 3,803,947,010.00, whereas the Gross Regional Domestic Product in 1993 was Rp 706,355,109,000.00, with income per capita which reached Rp 701,389.00. Its economic development reached 28,31% by the economic growth which reached 7,85% per year.
GEOGRAPHICAL CONDITION
Tuban is located between 111.30'- 112.35' east longitude and 6 40' - 7 south latitude, and is bordered on:
- The North: Java Sea
- The East : the District of Lamongan
- The South: the District of Bojonegoro
- The West : the Districts of Blora and Rembang (Central Java Province)
The north coastal part of Tuban is very potential for its fishery product, especially Bancar Subdistrict which is now provided with the fish landing port supported by the European Economic Society.
Compared to the southern part of the district, the middle part is considerably mountainous and infertile, so it is suitable for industrial estate.
Almost all of the parts of Tuban occupy the land surface about 25-100 m above the sea level (75.683 Ha/40,72%). 47,543 Ha (25,58%) of the total area occupies 100 m and more whereas the rest belongs to a coastal area which is about 65 km stretching from the east to the west. In the south part, especially along the river bank of Bengawan Solo is relatively fertile and considerably as rice stock place for Tuban.
